Exhibit description

Gasworks resembled living organisms – they kept on growing to meet the town’s ever-increasing demand for energy.

This is visible in this construction plan prepared in 1935 by Didier Werke A.G., a company from Berlin. The plan contains drawings of new furnaces designed for the municipal gasworks in Opole. These were vertical-chamber furnaces, whose efficiency was 20% higher than that of the retort furnaces used in smaller plants.
