Exhibit description
In the coal carbonization process, water played an equally important role to that of fire. Water enabled the cleaning of gas and its storage. Gas was stored in wet storage tanks under the cover of a special bell floating over water on a gas blanket. Once “bathed”, the gas aimed for the mains gas network carried a lot of water.
To prevent the risk of corrosion and pressure drops, it had to be removed. That is why special dehydrators were installed in the lowest points of the gas network. The water from the gas condensed so it could be pumped out, while the gas could flow on – clean and dry.
