Exhibit description

Most gas users would be surprised if they were required to insert coins into a meter in order to activate the flow of gas. Today, token gas meters seem to be a technical curiosity from the inception of the gas industry.

This gas meter with a slot mechanism is one of the newest gas meters in the extensive collection of the Gasworks Museum in Paczków – it was manufactured in 1962. Such devices have been used until recently in some German states and in the British Isles.
