Exhibit description

Dating back to 1927, the design of a 6-retort furnace at the Glubczyce gasworks with a semi-generator in the Kulmiz system demonstrates how the growing demand for gas prompted the search for more efficient ways of producing gas.

As gas-powered appliances were growing in popularity, the volume of gas supplied by the gasworks in Glubczyce became insufficient. Hence attempts were made to find a new, most efficient furnace system for the production of gas. Some years earlier there had also been plans to build a 7-retort furnace.

Eventually, despite the introduction of newer and newer gas production systems on horizontal retorts, a different decision was taken. Even before World War II, retort furnaces were phased out in favour of vertical-chamber furnaces.
