Exhibit description

This drawing shows the details of an enigmatic tower rising above the centre of the town of Głubczyce.

Resembling a watchtower or a temple, it rises high over the residential estate located at Słowackiego Street. Above the entrance to the building, one can see an angel holding two shields – the town’s coat of arms. Although the neo-Gothic style and decorative elements made of clinker bricks give the tower a mysterious appearance, the structure served some very practical purposes.

The water tower was built at the end of the 19th century as an integral element of the mains water system. The structure’s decorative walls conceal a 280 m³ tank, which ensured adequate water pressure for the municipal waterworks.
